Fees & Rebates
If a General Practitioner (your doctor) or Psychiatrist has written a Mental Health Care Plan for you to see a psychologist, Medicare rebates are available under the “Better Access to Mental Health Care” Scheme. Under the Better Access Scheme, you may be eligible to receive 10 rebated sessions per calendar year. The upfront cost for each session is $140 and you will receive the rebated amount (currently $86.15 per session in April 2020) when you complete a Medicare claim.
Private Health Funds:
Each private health fund offers different rebates for various services. Contact your fund to check that psychological services are covered and what the rebate (if any) you will receive for each session. It is worthwhile also finding out how many sessions you are entitled to. The fee is $140 for a 50 minute session which you will be asked to pay after the consultation. You then send your receipt to your Private Health Fund to receive your reimbursement as per your cover arrangements.
Individuals without a GP Mental Health Care Plan or Private Insurance:
Consultations are $140 for a 50 minute session payable after each consultation.
