What is the Medicare Better Access Scheme?

Justine McAllister is a registered generalist psychologist who is registered with Medicare Australia to provide treatment for mental health issues and then provide Medicate Rebates for treatment. Justine is committed to providing quality and affordable mental health support and consequently, for individuals who are accessing the Medicare Better Access Scheme through a Mental Health Care Plan prepared by a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician, will have no out of pocket expenses for up to 10 sessions per calendar year if this is recommended by your referring health care professional.

Fees & Rebates

Medicare:

If a General Practitioner or Psychiatrist has referred you with a Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare rebates are available under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Scheme. Treatment is bulk-billed, so the cost is covered by Medicare with no out of pocket expenses for your visits. You may be eligible for up to 10 treatment sessions per calendar year.

Private Health Funds:

Each private health offers different rebates for various services. Contact your fund to check that psychological services are covered and the rebate amount that you will receive as well as how many sessions you are entitled to. The fee is $120 for a 50 minute session which you will be asked to pay after the consultation. You then send your receipt to your Private Health Fund to receive their reimbursement.

Individuals without a GP Mental Health Care Plan or Private Insurance:

Consultations are $ 120 per 50 minute session payable after each consultation.
